Sophie Bear
Days out with Sophie Bear

Cute furry bear

Sophie loves travelling and she gets to meet lots of new friends. Her favourite part is to visit lots of different places that sell chocolate but I'm sure you're not as greedy as her! This list is a few of Sophie's favourite days out all over the UK. You will find more tails of her adventures in the Diary section.

The South East (inc Essex / East Anglia)
Danbury Country Park
Good country park with Victorian history. Great for a picnic. (Public toilets)
Colchester Zoo
Very highly recommended by Sophie. More than a full day so check out their "Gold Cards" for multiple visit savings. Loads of animals, big and small plus shows, talks and FEEDING. Sophie's favourites are the elephant and giraffe feeding - which you do yourself. (Tigers are fed by the keepers...)
Lake Meadows

Good town park with huge pretty lake. Toilets at one end, near playground. Cafe etc... Includes crazy golf, pitch and putt, tennis etc...

The Midlands (inc Warwickshire & Birmingham)
Very pretty village with village green, stream, bridges and benches. Ideal stop off for lunch.
(No public toilets, small shop.)
Birmingham City Centre - Shopping

Lots of shops, good atmosphere. Look out for Selfridges with Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Watch the doughnuts being made in their in store factory!

(Toilets in centres / shops)

Bidford upon Avon Rec Ground
Bidford nr Alcester

Great located, large recreation ground on the banks of the Avon including playground and mature trees. One fee per car for entry.

(Toilets on site)

The South (inc Warwickshire & Birmingham)
Pooh Country Hartfield, East Sussex

Village with close ties to AA Milne of Winnie the Pooh fame. You can walk and pay a visit to many of the inspirations behind Pooh Bear's 100 acre wood.

Kids need to be familiar with the stories and have an imagination for this one!

(Not great for toilets - genuine village & woodland)

Southampton & Winchester
South Coast
Great for shopping with interesting history thrown in. Kids will like the "real" King Arthurs round table in Winchester. Sophie recommends the crepes in John Lewis, Southampton.
Aldenham Country Park (Not listed on web yet) Hertfordshire

Country park with section themed as "100 akre wood" from Winnie the Pooh. (Not an actual AA Milne site as above.) Doesn't require too much imagination because the houses of Pooh, Piglet, Wol and Eeeyore have all been recreated. Plenty of picnic room and the usual country park walking etc... Great fun.

(Public toilets. Car parking £4)

The North
Newcastle & Durham
Newcastle has good shopping and nightlife. For good shopping with kids visit the Metro centre. Beamish is an exciting full day out back into olden days.
Lake District
Sophie recommends two good short walks around Loughrigg Tarn and up the Brathay to Elterwater.
Sophie recommends New Brighton to walk along by the seaside and Parkgate for fantastic ice cream!
