Sophie gets ready for Christmas

It is December in Essex where Sophie Bear lives and she is starting to think about Christmas coming soon.

Christmas tree in car with Sophie Bear

First thing to do is collect the tree from the Christmas Tree Farm. Hang on a minute Sophie - how many trees have you got in that car?

Can you count how many Sophie has got in the car?

Sophie - where are we going to put two trees? "Well, we had the Daddy tree but this little one was sitting near it and looked lonely!"

Mrs Keen helped Sophie to bring the trees into the house. First job is to cut 2cm off the bottom of the trunk so it can drink water from the big green pot.

First they cut the little one and put it in for a drink.

They started to put the lights on the tree - this is the first thing to do.

Then they cut the large tree and put it in its stand at the opposite end of the room. This one is very big and bushy. Sophie wanted to try to climb up it but Mrs Keen said it wasn't safe.

Next Sophie reaches up and puts the baubles onto the tree. The only problem is that she can only reach the bottom branch. Luckily, Mrs Keen helped her reach the top.

Reaching up to the big tree was even worse for poor Sophie. Even with a chair to stand on she could only reach a couple of branches. The tree touched the ceiling it was so tall!

Finally, as a finishing touch Mrs Keen stood on a chair and put an angel onto the very top of the tree. "I hope she doesn't mind heights!", said Sophie.

Sophie has now finished decorating the lounge with red and gold. "What about the other rooms?" asks Sophie.

Sophie ran into the dining room to see what decorations she can put in there. She was surprised to find that her snowmen friends had been very busy and had already finished. "A mummy sized tree", she shouted, "just like the three bears!"

Can you see which colours were used on this tree?

After all their hard work Sophie and the snowmen sat down to have a rest. Some of the bigger snowmen had already found more jobs to do. "Haven't we finished yet? I'm tired." moaned Sophie.

The snowlady stood at the top of the stairs watching the snowmen hard at work. "Doesn't it look pretty?" said Sophie. The snowlady looked down at Sophie because she is very tall and nodded her head.

Sophie is getting very excited. She can't wait for Father Christmas to arrive. Do you know how many days it is until he comes?

"Merry Christmas Everyone "

says Sophie

Parent's Note

Sophie likes to have a real tree and goes each year to the Christmas Tree Farm in Hawkwell, Essex.

If you know of good amateur illuminations then send Sophie an email and we'll try to list it for you. Also, if you're in the Essex area then she would enjoy visiting!
